I've just completed 90 days of going all in on LinkedIn.

What. A. Platform.

Not to make it all about vanity metrics, but at the time of writing this Iā€™m sitting at just under 5,000 followers.

Not bad for 90 days eh?

Alongside that, nearly a million impressions.

But what are the learnings? What valuable information can I pass on to you?

Quite a lot, actually.

Before you read through the list though, remember:

The things that work for me, wonā€™t necessarily work for you.

Itā€™s not my way or the highway. Itā€™s actually your way, or the doorway. (Donā€™t know where Iā€™m going with that, haha).

Soā€¦ my top 10 learnings from 90 days on LinkedIn:

01: My ā€œthemed carouselsā€ get the most likes & shares

ā¤ļø See my Toy Story & Breaking Bad carousels as examples.

02: Single images with breakdowns perform really well, alongside collaboration posts šŸ“ˆ

See a single image example & my collab carousel with Matt Barker.

03: Iā€™ve seen no difference between scheduled & native posts šŸ“†

Iā€™ve tried posting directly on LinkedIn & also scheduling using Buffer.  It has made absolutely no difference to reach and engagement.

04: Iā€™ve grown my email list by 1,000+ with post CTAs & comment links šŸ“£

At the bottom of each post, Iā€™ve directed people towards the comments to grab my free LinkedIn planner. Straight after posting, I also drop the link into the comment section so people can grab it easily.

05: Morning posts perform better than afternoon/evening posts šŸ•°

This will be an ongoing debate, but for me, morning posts are where I tend to post ā€œrich mediaā€ ā†’ videos/carousels etc. They just perform better than anything posted later on. I tend to post at 8am UK time on weekdays.

06: Tagging Lea Turner really helps with reach šŸ¤£

Leaā€™s a LinkedIn ā€œinfluencerā€ that I met on Instagram.  You'll know her already. Weā€™ve got a few little projects coming up. In this case, she wrote a post & I designed it.  I posted it just 6 days into my journey and it reached 17,000+ people.  But donā€™t go tagging her in everything, she tells me off enough already.

07: 2 of my top 3 most viewed posts had no hashtags šŸš«

I hate all this hashtag nonsense. The gurus push it so much. I now know that it doesnā€™t matter one bit.

08: My top 5 most shared posts were all carousels uploaded as PDFs šŸ‘€

Part of my growth strategy for the next 90 days must include carousels.  This is good and badā€¦ Carousels are my favourite content type to consume & create, butā€¦ they take AGES!

09: Remixing a post by Justin Welsh helps you push past 20k impressions šŸ“Š

I stole one of Justinā€™s text posts and turned it into a carousel. He liked it. I liked the reach. If youā€™re never heard of Jack Butcherā€™s ā€œPermissionless Apprenticeā€ approach, itā€™s worth taking a look.

Check out the post I stole from Justin here.

10: My text-only posts never exceeded 60 likes, and the share level is minimum šŸ“‰

The lesson here: Attach media to every post.

So there you go. Hopefully thatā€™s useful to you.

Speak soon!
